12:44 am - wheeee
|
I've been toying with updating my livejournal on and off for the past month or so, once going so far as to open the window, only to close it. I suppose I don't have the same need to expound upon my every escapade I did when I was in high school... In any case, life has treated me well. I've been looking back a little bit on the experience i've had during my first year of college (finals are in two weeks and then i'm coming back to TO). It's gone remarkably well for me at UCSB, and I wouldn't want things to have ended up any other way. When you think about it, there are so many things that can go wrong at college (my favorite example is the roomie snorting cocaine off the desk at 4am to heavy metal music). The one thing I wish I could figure out is what i want to do with my life. I toyed with the notion of a biz.econ major, but quickly ruled that out when i realized it has math. I hate math. Now i'm considering going to law school. I'm not sure if this is the flavor of the week or what I will and up doing with myself. I suppose that's what freshman year is good for though, take some classes and start thinking about what you want to do... At least i'm absolutely sure that I want to do an English minor, that gives me a tiny bit of direction. I had a really fun weekend with Chelsea, who came up to visit me :). It was a great deal of fun as it always is, and i'm looking forward to being with her this summer a lot more than I am during the school year. She was a huge part of what made this year so exciting to me, and i've been thinking about that too. I recently got my first story published in the Daily Nexus as well. I haven't thrown myself into journalism here like I did in high school, but hey I have my foot in the door now and I'm excited to see how that will go next year. The staff seems pretty cool, and I enjoy reading the paper which is an important part of writing for it in my opinion. It's an interesting combination of hard news and some sillier columnists etc, truly what I would consider a student newspaper. In other words it doesn't try to be the New York Times by a different name. I could definitely get into it...
Basically, all of my friends need to come visit me at SB now that your schools are out. Call me sometime soon and come down memorial weekend friday or the 3rd of june. Major partying planned, true to the spirit of Lil Jon Crunkery hahahhaa
Well that was fun. Hope you're all doing well also!

seems like people don't update this thing so much anymore (me included). So anyways, my life: School goes well. The 15 units i am taking this quarter are a lot more intense than last quarter's for some reason, so that no matter how much work i do i am still behind... As far as my extracirricular life goes: SB is awesome, and WE FOUND A HOUSE FOR NEXT YEAR!!! 6 of the coolest people I know united as one with the goal of getting crunked hahaha this is gonna be off the hook. In other news, I shall be seeing Chelsea for the next three weekends which will be nice seeing as i have missed her. Call me and say hey if i haven't talked to you in a long time! I don't want to lose contact with anyone. Ok peace out homiez

11:51 am - Hi boredom!
|
Well, school and finals are over. I think I did passably well in all my subjects so YE-YEAHHH!!!.. Except for Anthro. If you're in that class you know what I'm talking about... Oh well he'll have to curve it. This weekend I took a highly bomb trip to UCLA to visit Chelsea, and wow!!! Between going to 3rd street and going clubbing and seeing her dorm we had one of the most fun weekends in memory. Now I'm sitting at home, with at least a few more days to go before I can see everyone... Well I'll just have to wait!! I wish you all good luck on your finals if you're not done yet, and have a fun break for those who are!!

Martin, thanks for the extravaganza this weekend. It was way awesome. I had a great break. Lots of seeing old friends, and a particular shoutout to my berkeley homies Kerac! Chingoo! Willy! whom i had not seen in quite a while. JOSH! we barely saw you it's sad you had to leave. It was nice to be at home, see Chelsea a lot, and generally kick back and enjoy T-day Iranian style. I'm also excited to get back to UCSB, because school is bomb-ass, and i shall be able to once again hit the social circuit (a shoutout to Tom and Ariana, my only LJ college homies haha i miss you guys). Ok anyways i'm gonna go eat, then hit up Amtrak, and then i'm off to school!

Wow UCSB is beeaaautiful. My room has a fucking awesome view, my roomie is way awesome, and everyone on my flor is realy social and likable. I havent had a free moment except for sleeping haha but that's the way I like it. I might start to miss TO... NAH!!! hahahah but I do miss a lot of the people for sure. Speaking of saying for sure i'm starting to pick up my romie harris' little sayings. I might begin letting "right on" slip too haha. That's ok though because i'm making him stop saying Hella. That's for you chingoo haha. My last days in TO were awesome, and i spent a lot of time with Chelsea which was good since i wont be seeing much of her here obviously. I haven't forgotten al you TO people! come visit me at first opportunity. Ok of to convocation now, john cleese of Monty Python fame is our keynotes speaker!

1) Thank you for all the calls (sober and otherwise) Berkeley kids!! I've been most excited to receive your updates and I'm glad you're all having a great time!
2) I talked to my future roommate today. He hails from beautiful Boulder, Colorado, which i found interesting. Glad to be roomed with somebody who's not from around here, it'll provide some perspective on things. He seems like a thoroughly awesome guy, and i enjoyed my conversation with him. We have many of the same interests, including Incubus, RHCP and Jurassic Park hahaha. He furthermore plays rugby, which i found quite interesting. So basically I'm glad that the prophecy that I would get a roomie who listened to heavy metal while snorting crack at 4am, or a straightedge playa hatah of some sort was not fulfilled. UCSB is shaping up to be some good times.
3) going to James' to say adios to Seb tonight.

10:44 am - well it's been a while...
|
hey heey hey. First off, HAPPY BDAY to H to the Izzeather tomorrow.
Ok it's been quite a while since i posted, and basically my summer has been smooth sailing all the way. I'm still at my job, which is awesome, and my last day is sept 3. I move in at sb on sept 18th probably. I'm not gonna bore you with the individual bits of things i've done with my summer, so instead i'll tell you a funny anecdote about my neighbor with whom i have an ongoing battle:
It all started about a year ago. A neighbor of ours is friends with my mom and my sister, and has furthermore never learned to mind her own business. Anyways, I let my sister drive my car around the neighborhood, which is technically illegal, but I trust myself to instruct her more than, for example, my dad. This is owing to the fact that my dad often goes insane when placed in a "driving instructor" capacity. Example
Dad: Aria, you are going five miles below the limit Aria: Sorry, *accelerates* Dad: NO YOU FOOL WHAT ARE YOU DOING ESTOOOPP ESTOPPPPPP!!!!! Aria: What! What the heck?! Dad: Aria you must go ten miles below the speed limit!! (i'm not kidding he actually said that once)
Anyways, we were driving around the nighborhood when we see this angry lady staring. Never being one to give a fuck I instruct Sheva to drive on. Later, the lady (Kim is her name, but as you'll see later I gave her a nickname) sorry, Kim, approaches me and asks why I let her drive. I tell her that it's ok for her to learn with me, and basically blow her off, leaving the impression that i'll do it again if i damn well please. This apparently upset her, so she tried taking the matter up with my sister, who made clear to her that she didnt see what the big deal was. Finally, Kim felt that she needed to bring in the big guns: She told my mom.
Now those of you who have been introduced to my mom know that she is an easygoing kind of person. This was no exception it seems
Kim: Your son let Sheva drive his car. That's illegal you know Mom: So? Kim: don't you care? Mom: No, get back to work [my mom employs Kim part time as her assistant]
I think that Kim finally let the matter rest once she saw that the Miran family had no respect for the law, and that as gangstaz we ride however tha fuck we please, but that all changed a couple of days ago when my sister's friend showed up in her daddy's hot new convertible CLK series Mercedes Benz.
As she was leaving, I challenged her to a race with the Alty, mostly for shits and giggles. She agreed, ran into her car and drove off while i was still in the driveway. I wasn't about to let that sweet ride get away, so I raced to the alty, turned the ignition, popped into gear and floored the accelerator, sending the RPM's skyrocketing and shattering the relative silence of our neighborhood with the squeal of tires and the roar of unrestrained internal combustion. I raced away from the curb in pursuit of my quarry.
Sadly, the pursuit ended prematurely when I sighted my mom and Kim taking a walk. Shit. I stopped, and after a firm warning from my mom was on my way. Kim had stolen my race!!!! And to make matters worse, she was standing there, shaking her head and cahnting "too fast, too fast"
That wasn't good enough though. After trying again in vain to convince my mother that i belonged in prison rather than behind the wheel again, Kim decided to take matters into her own hands.
This morning at about 6:45 a.m. The phone rang. I ignored it and went back to sleep. Sadly the caller was not in the mood to leave a message. They called back. I staidfastly did not move from my spot. On the third series of rings I figured that whoever was calling must be trying to warn me of impending terrorist attack, so i picked up.
Groggy Aria: ugghh hello? idiot kim: Hi, this is Kim, I just called to tell your sister that the Horse show she wanted to see is on the olympics, sorry if i woke you up Aria: ugghh it's ok, i'll tell her Kim: channel 57 Aria: mmmmm *hangs up*
She had called at 6:45 to tell my sister that a fucking horse show was on!!!! In my half-awake sleep I stumbled to my sister's door to tell her about the call. The dialogue that follows is quoted directly
Aria: ugghh Sheva, that Pirate Kim called to tell you the your fucking horse show is on channel 57 Sheva: mmmmmmmm Aria: wake up Sheva: mmmmmm Aria: (in own mind) Did I just call Kim a pirate? What the shit it's bedtime *leaves*
Anyways, now i'm brainstorming ways to get back at her. The moral of the story is something like this: If you talk to people while you're half asleep, your subconscious mind will teach you many true things. I never knew that Kim is a pirate before today...
And yes, I am half-asleep as I post this, so don't accuse me of insanity hehehehe. Ok I had fun writing that. Have a nice day, and a Shoutout to everyone who has left/is leaving for college

Well, it's time to update. The last two weeks or so have been intense.
1) UCSB orientation Orientation was way monay. It sucked that our parents were there with us, but hey oh well. I met a lot of cool people, and i thought it was hilariouso that more of the orientation concerned getting drunk responsibly than academics hehehe i'm gonna have a great time at UCSB I think. It's an amazingly beautiful campus too, beach views and everything. I picked my classes too, Evolutionary anthropology, european comparative literature, psychology, and my personal favorite: linguistics haha. An overall total of 15 units, which hopefully wont be too overwhelming. As college approaches I'm getting more and more excited. Oh yeah and I won the poker tournament that we started haha. I turned $5 into $30, and i would have had $50, but I had to split the pot because the damn orientation staff kicked us out at like 12:00. Thanks for helping me with the poker skillz I needed to win kids lol. But in any case, meeting new people and chilling out is going to be really awesome.
Sadly leaving everyone else is not going to be really awesome. To the select few of you guys who actually decided to stick around and put up with my idiosyncracies and immature behaviour, i love you. To those of you who didn't, your loss! hahaha
2) Camping Trip My camping trip was also really cool, though it was cut short through unfortunate circumstances. We went to Minaret Falls in Mammoth. Our camping spot was most awesome, and located within 15 feet of a river. The river was great for swimming etc, and we availed ourselves of that opportunity, as well as the opportunity to swim in rainbow falls. Truly an unforgettable experience. The nights though were a very forgettable experience, not for lack of conversation or cooking or cool stuff, but for the quantity of alcohol consumed. I got crazay drunk 4 nights in a row lol. It's ok though because i had only had liquor one other time throughout the summer. Towards the end nick felt like shit, and after having driven to lake tahoe, we decided to get the man home quick. The memories will never die though. BORN TO BE WIIIIIILLLLDDDDD
3) Acquisition of college materials I have been procuring the things necessary for a successful college career lately, namely a new laptop and digital camera haha. Now that i've gotten the fun stuff outta the way, it's time for the more boring shizzle, like extra long bedsheets and storage bins. Oh well. Post anything you think i'm likely to forget, oh people who hath known my quandry!
In further news, I'm quitting my job on september 3rd, so between then and move-in day (september 18th) I will have much free time. Call me. It's a real shame that i dont update this thing more often, and hopefully I'll get around to it in college, but then again i'll be so busy... haha anyways i'm still reading the stuff you guys write
bam!
